South Finish...

Congratulations to the Toms River South baseball team for pulling off a stunning come from behind victory against Brick Memorial yesterday in a key Shore Conference Class A South match up.

Senior leftfielder Rick Petrosino ripped the game winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game as he drove in Mark Perry, who had doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch. Perry was one of the heroes of the seventh inning when the 10 and 1 Indians scored two runs to tie the game at three. After sophomore Ryan Kapp ripped a solo home run to make the game 3 to 2, Perry singled in pinch runner Tim O’Brien to send it into extra innings.

Junior pitcher Marc Potter pitched eight and one-third innings of strong baseball and he was relieved by senior Evan Bigler, who got South out of the ninth inning. Bigler picked up the win to make his record 5 and 0. Junior Joe Talerico got the Indians on the board early, drilling a solo home run in the third inning to tie the game at one.

South has now won nine games in a row and they will host Southern tomorrow at 3:15 p.m. before competing in the Ocean County Tournament this weekend.

On Tueday, the Indians defeated Jackson 9-4 as freshman Tyler Gebler pitched four and two-thirds of no-hit relief. Gebler earned his first varsity win and had an important two-run single.
