Back on the Winning Track

TR South 10, Brick 0: The Indians rolled for their second consecutive Shore Class A South road victory as sophomore righty Tyler Gebler and junior lefty Vinny Vivona comibined on a four-hit, shutout victory.

Gebler was perfect through the first three innings to earn the win, exiting the game with a 7-0 lead and saving innings for use over the next two games for the Indians (2-1, 2-1). Gebler (2-0) struck out four of the nine batters he faced. Vivona scattered four hits and walked one while striking out five over the last four innings for the save.

Offensive, South scored three unearned runs in the first off loser FJ Lucchetti (0-1) before adding two in the third and two more in the fourth. Junior Ryan Kapp (two-four with 2 RBI) plated courtesy runner Ron Roma to make it 3-0 and junior Jake DelVento singled in senior Joe Talerico to make it 4-0 in the third inning. Talerico ripped the first of two run-scoring triples in the fourth driving in Chase Gray (1 for 3, 2 BB) and Roma, who scored four runs on the day. Talerico added a one-run triple in the sixth and then scored on a single by Kapp to make it 9-0.

South travels to Central on Monday at 3:45 for a non-conference contest and hosts Toms River East in a Class A South tilt on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.

In related TRS news, Rutgers junior All America Todd Frazier ripped grand slam homers in consecutive days to lead the Scarlet Knights past UCONN on Thursday and Friday. Those homers give him 12 for the season and leaves him just two shy of the Rutgers record held by older brother Jeff - who opened his season for the AA West Tenn. team in the Mariners farm system. Have a great holiday weekend!
