Great Start to 2007

TR South 5, TR North 0: The Indians picked up right where they left off the 2006 season as they shutout the host Mariners at Ray Ryan Field on Monday April 2nd. South, the defending Shore Conference Class A South co-champs, chalked up the win behind strong team defense, great pitching by sophomore righthander Tyler Gebler and the bats of seniors Joe Talerico and Mark Perry.

South (1-0, 1-0) took the lead in the top of the 4th inning when Talerico led off with a single and was bunted to second base by junior second baseman Chase Gray. Gebler followed with a walk and Perry then came through with a clutch single to rightfield to make it 1-0. Junior rightfielder Ryan Kapp ripped a double to right-center to make it 2-0.

The Indians added three more in the 5th inning as Talerico smacked a two-run double and Gray followed with an RBI single.

Gebler struck out six and walked none as he scattered six hits throughout the seven innings. The 6-foot-4 righthander is now 1-0 this year and 5-2 in his career.

South, which hosts Southern on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. at the Ken Frank Baseball Stadium, got outstanding defense from junior shortstop John Coppinger, junior catcher Brian Chrashewsky and Perry at first base.

Thanks to all the parents, supporters and alumni who came out to root the Indians on. Evan Bigler, Joe Bellavance, Kyle Lamar and Todd Frazier were in the house. Thanks!
