Now 4-0 vs. non-conference teams....

TR South 10, St. John Vianney 7: The Indians overcame an early deficit to improve their record to 8-4 and and 4-0 vs. non-Shore Conference Class A South competition.

Sophomore Joe Talerico led the offensive brigade, going 2 for 3 with 5 RBI. Talerico ripped a first inning bases loaded triple to drive in 3 and give South a 3-2 lead. Freshman Chase Gray dropped a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to make it 4-2.

The Lancers rallied back though in the top of the second as senior lefty Anthony Amatucci came on and finally settled down the Vianney offense and kept South in the game.

The Indians took the lead for good in the bottom of the second as Amatucci drilled a sacrifice fly to center and Talerico followed up with a double for his fourth RBI of the game. South added two more int he third as Jake Roth (courtesy runner) scored on a wild pitch and Zack DelVento plated John Martone.

Amatucci drilled a solo homer onto the roof of the school in right-center to make it 9-5.

Evan Bigler came on in the 7th to record the final two out for a save as Gray, a freshman, fielded a ground ball up the middle stepped on second and threw to first for a game-ending double play.

South is scheduled to host Brick Memorial at 4 p.m. tomorrow in Ocean County Tournament quarterfinal action and a non-conference game against Mt. Carmel (PA) at 7 p.m. - weather permitting. If they are rained out, South will host Brick Memorial Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. in the OCT.

South hosts Middletown North on Monday, Southern on Tuesday and travels to Brick and Brick Memorial on Thursday and Friday.
