Two Weeks In...

Two weeks into the high school baseball season and one week into the preseason, the Indians sit with a 5-1 record.

South split a doubleheader today, beating St. Peter's Prep of Jersey City, 8-7, and losing to Hamilton West, 5-2. The Indians had defeated Manalapan on Thursday, 12-4.

South staged a classic comeback against the Mauraders, rallying for six runs in the sixth inning to tie and scoring one more in the seventh to win. Sophomore Ryan Kapp plated sophomore pinch runner Nick Roma with a suicide squeeze base hit bunt to win the contest. Keying the Indians comeback was a two-run homer by Evan Bigler, his third of the preseason.

Bigler also came on in relief to earn the win. The game was tied at 7 when junior Joe Talerico ripped a bases loaded single down the leftfield line which went all the way to the wall clearing the bases.

The Indians stay busy this week hosting Freehold Twp. on Tuesday and Barnegat, coached by former TRS player and coach Tom Sutaris, on Wednesday.
