HELLO 2010!
Greetings TR South baseball fans, alumni and supporters - I will try to keep things updated here this season.
We got underway over the weekend and practice has been going well.
Here is a quick schedule update:

TR South Wins Fifth in a Row
TR South 7, Southern 1: Junior lefty Andrew McGee went the distance, striking out nine, walking none and scattering seven hits to lead the visiting Indians to a victory over the host Rams.It was the fifth win in five days for South (8-4 overall, 6-3 in A South).
The Indians broke open the game in the third inning, scoring four runs. Senior right fielder Joe Patterson had the big hit, driving a two-run double to right centerfield. Senior Dan Davis added a sacrifice fly and sophomore David Egeland singled in Patterson to make it 4-0. Junior Tyler Kapp added an RBI single in the fourth and after a Patterson triple in the fifth, Davis and junior Michael Coon had RBI singles to make it 7-0.
Southern's Donnie Blasco tripled in the bottom of the fifth and scored on a sacrifice fly for Southern's only run.
South shortstop Tyler Gebler was three for four with a run scored while Kapp and Coon were each two for three.

Baseball Weekend
TR South 11, Brick 7: Senior right hander Kevin Knowles came out of the bullpen in the bottom of the seventh to settle down the host Green Dragons (1-8, 1-6) and preserve the Shore Conference Class A South victory for the visiting Indians (6-4, 4-3 in A South). After an infield error, Knowles struck out a batter and induced a weak pop up to first baseman Dan Davis for his first career save.
South rallied out to a 9-1 lead through the top of the third inning, scoring one in the first, four in the second and four in the third inning. Senior shortstopTyler Gebler doubled, stole third base and scored on an RBI ground out by sophomore Mitch Dressing in the first. A Tyler Kapp RBI single and a run scoring double by sophomore catcher Dan Scheller helped make it 5-0. In the third inning, an RBI single by Michael Coon, run scoring hit by Kapp and a sacrifice fly by Gebler pushed the lead to 8-0.
The Dragons rallied back though, as designated hitter Tim Carney struck for four hits in four at bats while driving in five runners with two homers and two singles. Carney blasted a solo homer in the second and a two-run homer in the fifth. He had run scoring singles in the third and the seventh inning. South sophomore Connor Kaden (1-0) earned his first varsity win, holding Brick to three runs in the first three innings while striking out six, walking one and allowing five hits. Junior Rich Gabriel worked the next three before yielding to Knowles. Dan Boyle (0-2) took the loss for Brick.

Gebler, who also had an RBI single in the third inning, only allowed three baserunners until the seventh inning, when the Mariners strung together four hits in five plate appearances.
South took a 2-0 lead in the third when junior Tyler Kapp led off with a single up the middle and was bunted to second by sophomore catcher Dan Scheller. Gebler drilled a single, scoring Kapp. Courtesy runner Chris McKenna, running for Gebler, later scored on a Kevin Gilmore sacrifice fly. An RBI single by Scheller in the fourth made it 3-0 and South added two more in the fifth on an RBI single by Dave Egeland and an RBI walk by Kapp.
Brian Gilbert had an RBI single for North in the seventh inning. Bill Hoermann had a double in the first, but was stranded.
With the win, Gebler improves his career record to 23-10 and ties former TRS pitchers Tom Forrester (1982) and Jeff Burstein (1994) for sixth place on the TRS all time win list.

TRS 3, Lacey 2
TR South 3, Lacey 2 (10 inn): Sophomore catcher Dan Scheller sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th scored junior second baseman Mike Coon with the go ahead runs as the Indians earned the extra inning victory over the host Lions.Senior right hander Tyler Gebler (3-2) came on in the bottom of the ninth to induce a ground ball and then worked the 10th for the victory. Junior lefty Andy McGee was one pitch away from a 2-1 win when Lacey shortstop D'Addario hit a solo homer to left in the bottom of the seventh with two-outs to tie the game. McGee had given up only two hits at that point, striking out 10 in the first seven and walking none. He also allowed a solo homer in the fourth inning to losing pitcher Jensen. |
Coon, who was four for four with two doubles, started the rally in the 10th with a lined shot into the right-center gap. He advanced to third on a passed ball before scoring on the sacrifice fly. Coon also scored in the fifth after doubling, stealing third and scoring on a wild throw by the Lacey catcher. Gebler, who now has 22 career wins, drove in the first run for South (4-4, 2-3) with an RBI single in the third inning.
McGee, who threw a seven inning no-hitter last week, did not allow a hit through the first three innings against the Lions.

Back from Florida
Greeting all TR South Baseball followers:
We return from Florida having won three of our last four games - including two of three at the baseball complex in Fort Pierce, FL.
Before we departed, we defeated Southern Regional 8-2 for our first win of the season.
We then went on to defeat Batavia, NY 3 to 2 and then St. Mary's Ryken of Md. 3-0. Senior righty Tyler Gebler won the Southern & Batavia games, marking career wins 20 and 21 for him. He becomes the 12th TR South pitcher to join the illustrious 20-win club. Gebler also drilled a long, two-run homer against Batavia.
Junior lefty Andy McGee pitched the game of his career against St. Mary's, allowing just two baserunners and posting his first career no-hitter. McGee struck out 10 and walked none as he improved his 2009 record to 1-1.
South will play at Lacey Tuesday, at Brick Wednesday and at Brick Memorial on Thursday night.

TRS bounces back
TR South 8, Southern 2: The Indians earned their first win of the season as senior righthander Tyler Gebler pitched seven strong innings to notch his 20th career high school victory.
Gebler (1-1) struck out seven, walked none and scattered five hits on his way to becoming the 12th TR South pitcher to reach the 20-win career milestone.
Senior rightfielder Joe Patterson and sophomore first baseball Dave Egeland paced the offense for the Indians (1-3 overall, 1-3 in A South). Patterson, who collected four RBI, dropped in an RBI double in first inning to start the scoring and ended it with a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Egeland, who was two for three, drilled a long solo homer in the fourth inning. Senior Marco Carballo added an RBI triple in the second inning. Gebler was also two for three at the plate.
Losing pitcher Jim Engle was three for three with a two-run homer in the sixth for the Rams (1-3).
